First Day BLOG

TrendLabs’ First Blog Conference

September 10, 2009

abcd0001-2

A blog (a contraction of the term “weblog“)[1] is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Dumugo ilong nyo no?..  pwes ako rin.. *tawa*)

DAY.01

Followup kwento later.

First day of BlogCon was kinda predictable and unsuspecting.  Predictable in a good sense and that because I personally expect talks and new insights from the guest speaker with matching question and answer portion to conclude it. Unsuspecting ? – Ummm.. for the lack of better term.. hehe maganda kasi pakinggan.. 😛 kidding aside, I think it’s because of its transparency.  Not to mention that the environment is not intimidating.  What I mean is its comfortable enough in its own way probably because we’re all Trenders.  Organizers also welcomed their participants warm enough as well. I only have a few things to say about this first day – I have a tendency kasi na masummarize ko ung event eh hindi naman to Reflection Paper sa highschool at lalong hindi Book Report! 😀  This first day insistently tells me that I need to start writing because I don’t have anything to lose instead a lot more to gain.  So I did!

Few things I learned:

–          Na magsulat ka lang ng blog for a fast food chain na makupad ang service at walang aircon mapapansin na agad

–          Na maraming companies ang nagsesearch sa internet for blogs (personal or professional) about their products to gauge how were they doing or what’s its impact to the market

DAY.02

Mr. Abe Olandres of Yugatech gave his talk and explained more about the ins and outs of blogging in a more profound and wider perspective.  Gone are the days of Angelfire, Geocities and the likes because of the presence of free blog sites in the form of blog.com, blogger.com, wordpress, etc. He advertently showed us how to form the concept of a blog once it has been started.  It gave me a much more understanding on what to write and who will it cater. This session is much of a help to people who will seek blogging as a money-making hobby including me.

Things I learned from this session:

–          Bloggers differ from Journalists – this statement once bothered me because I really cannot tell. Journalists can be limited on the material they’re writing whereas bloggers are as free as a bird.

–          Categorize your blog – if it’s something serious, then write something that does not have “hehe, lolz, ahihi, XoXo” 😛

–          That Mr. Olandres is now making six figures excluding the .00 at the end

–          That Mr. Olandres’ first car was bought out of writing something.  And I wish I can too!

–          Blogs should be timely and fast-paced

DAY.03

Lessons learned:

–          Speak your mind

DAY.04

abcd0002-1

–          That the Malware Blog started way back in March 8, 2005 – humble beginnings that is.

(may bitterness? :P)

The rest is history and it’s a wrap! Many are now eyeing for the HP netbook as it’s up for grabs for just blogging this event.  All I can remember the first time I heard of this Blog Conference is that, I’ll surely enjoy every single minute of it – and I really did.  Not for anything else, it’s really a way for us to venture to something we crave for despite doing our respective jobs as employees.  I hope there’s more to come because there’s more to us than meets the eye (salamat, Sam Witwicky :D).

Digs!
