Last Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010 marked the last airing date of the home of NU (new) rock in the Philippines. According to reports, it will go temporarily off the air but will surface a new format.
People born in the 80’s grew up listening to the sound of NU (I pertain to rock fanatics). A nd yes I’m one of them (those who were born in the 80’s) but I humbly admit that I was not an avid fan of the station and rock and roll. But despite it, I was able to appreciate its contribution to the music industry especially in OPM – and yeah, I was tuning in before to listen to some E-heads songs.
I don’t know what’s the reason behind but one thing is sure – a lot of people (of my age) are sad that the 23-year old rock and roll station in the country is bidding farewell to the airwaves. I got the chance to listen to their last stint on the radio and though they play hard and strong rock and roll songs, the never-ending thank you’s and goodbyes are deeply heartfelt. You can feel the soft spot.
As their last song played, “Magkahawak ang ating kamay — at walang kamalay-malay — na tinuruan mo ang puso ko.. na umibig na tunay.. ” Ang Huling El Bimbo, Eraserheads.
